Federico Lamas is a visual artist from Argentina whose portfolio includes installations, murals, video art and more. But you may know him for his defining project, started in 2008 and still expanding—Visión Infernal a series of optical illusion illustrations that, with the help of a red filter, reveal a hidden reality.
The concept and technique are inseparable: they offer a sincere way of looking at everyday themes, exploring the duality between what is visible and what is hidden (…) which enter into dialogue and challenge social meanings and conventions.
The work in the UZUC Factory, “Infernal Vision/Raining from Below,” is a continuation of this project and refers precisely to the present through absence. To Genius Loci – the Spirit of Place, which we cannot see, but which is there. It is both concept and technique. A tool for constructing an honest view of issues that require more attention.
The visual journey and, with it, the interpretation, always remain in the hands of the audience. Each image hides a scene that is revealed only to the viewer; it contrasts and enters into dialogue with what we see at first glance, generating a playful interaction and a moment of reflection.
The selection of scenes for the Artown NOW Urban Art Annual also includes new illustrations, designed specifically for the event.
